An illustrated online catalog of the Rotifera in the Academy of Natural Sciences. This database contains 1,975 records from the 1,935 slides in the Rotifer collection, including 1,228 images covering 730 taxa in the collection. This is a report from the collection database on 2003 April 1. This reflects the entire rotifer holdings of The Academy, the worlds most comprehensive collection of rotifers on microslides. This catalog was compiled with funding from the John J. and Anna H. Gallagher Fellowship by Christian D. Jersabek and Hendrik Segers with a web search by Paul J. Morris.

Search options: Enter your search criteria in the fields provided, select the type of search (Search for), type of result set (View), and press the search button. Criteria you place in the Species field will be use to search the species and subspecies names of both the current identification and the original identification. Searches are not case sensitive.
The type of search (Search for) has three options. Search for: Automatic will perform an exact match search on all fields except locality unless you include wildcards in your search terms. Automatic will add wildcards to the begining and end of your locality critera and will perform a wildcard search on the locality field. Automatic will also perform a wildcard search on any field in which you include criteria with a wildcard (* or % for any number of characters, ? or _ for exactly one character). If an automatic search returns no results, it will be repeated using a soundex algorithm to try to find matches that sound like the search criteria you provided. Search for: Exact match will perform an exact match on all fields for which you enter search criteria. Search for: Like will perform a wild card search on all fields for which you enter criteria, using the wildcards you provide. Like will not add wildcards to any fields (except for subspecies).
Each record represents one species or subspecies identified from a slide, while each slide has a single catalog number. The same catalog number can have more than one identification each representing a different rotifer taxon seen on that slide. Only a representative set of the best specimens in each species have been imaged. There are slides for which images have not been made, and slides with images often have other specimens that have not been imaged.
